Global Bibliography of Prison Systems PREFACE The primary goal for this bibliography is to provide practitioners, scholars, and students, with a reasonably comprehensive source for identifying information written about the prison system in as many countries of the world as possible. The bibliography has been constructed as an elastic object that expands and shrinks as more items are added and as dated and useless items are deleted.
As explained in the Compiler's Notes, inclusion criteria has focused the bibliography on post-1985 documents unless historical interest or paucity of other information about the country warranted the insertion of older material. Importantly, documents are included without regard to the language
in which they are written. Hopefully this will provide users from all countries with an indication of the types of material available in other countries. Suggestions for items to include or exclude in future versions of this bibliography are encouraged. We are especially interested in documents published by government agencies or institutes that may not be widely available outside the country of origin. Please forward suggestions to the: Philip L.
