ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

Registration

Registration of representatives at the Congress site (Austria Centre Vienna) will begin on Saturday, 8 April 2000, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. On 9 and 10 April 2000, it will be open from 8 a.m. to 6. p.m. For the remaining period of the Congress, the registration desk will be open from 8.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Participants arriving between 5 to 7 April 2000 may also register for the Congress, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., at the registration desk in the Vienna International Centre (VIC).

List of speakers

Delegations wishing to be inscribed on the list of speakers for the high-level segment, which is scheduled to begin on Friday, 14 April 2000, are kindly requested to contact the Office of the Secretary of the Congress at the ACV (Ms. McGregor, Room 02A4470BR, tel. 5278).

List of participants

Delegations that have not already submitted the names of their representatives participating at the Congress are requested to do so as soon as possible to the Registration desk located in the ACV.

Credentials of representatives

Delegations are kindly requested to submit their credentials to the Secretary of the Credentials Committee, whose office is located in room 02B6370PS.

Opening meeting of the Congress

The opening meeting of the Congress will be held on Monday, 10 April 2000, in Hall F, and will start promptly after 10 a.m. Participants are encouraged to reach the Austria International Centre no later than 9.15 a.m. In order that the opening meeting may begin punctually, participants are urged to be seated by 9.30 a.m.

Distribution of documents for information purposes

Participants wishing to submit documents for information purposes, for which tables are located outside the conference rooms, are requested to bring two copies of each such document to the office of the Executive Secretary of the Congress, room O2C1430BR Delegates wishing to distribute any papers in the conference room are requested to contact the Secretary of the meeting concerned.

Delegates wishing to circulate copies of their statements to the Plenary are requested to make 350 copies available to the Conference Officer in the Plenary Hall.

Delegations wishing to have their statements distributed to journalists should deliver 100 copies to the Press documents counter in the ACV. Requests to hold such texts until the statement is made in the plenary will be honoured.

Security

The Security and Safety Service of the Congress has requested that the participants take their personal belongings with them at the conclusion of each meeting. For security reasons, belongings such as briefcases should not be left unattended at any time. Suspicious objects should be reported to security immediately.

All participants in the Congress are reminded that it is essential for them to wear their Congress passes at all times when they are in the Centre. Passes should be worn on the outermost garment in order for security and safety personnel to see them clearly.

Cloakroom

Delegates are kindly requested to leave their coats in the cloakroom on the groundfloor.

Parking facilities

Tickets obtained upon entering the ACV garage may be exchanged free of charge at the ACV Information Counter for an exit ticket. Chauffeur-driven cars may drop off delegates at the main entrance but must depart thereafter.

Medical Service

Medical attention is available in the clinic operated by the Joint Medical Service on the 7th floor of the Building F of the VIC (tel. 26060 - 22224); for emergencies tel. 26060 - 22222). The clinic is open on weekdays from 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.

A pharmacy located next to the clinic (room F0715) is open on weekdays from 12.30 p.m. to 4.pm.

Emergency staircases in the ACV

Participants are advised that floors cannot be accessed from the emergency staircases in the ACV. Although they can be entered on any floor, the only exits are at the -3 level.

Photocopying

No commercial photocopying services are available at the ACV. There is a coin-operated photocopying machine in the NGO Area on the 01 level for use by all participants.

PC facilities

A limited number of computers will be available for the use by delegations in the Delegates= Lounge (Foyer A) on the 02 level.

Coffee lounges

Coffee lounges and other catering services will be available for Congress participants at the Austria Centre Vienna. Restaurants are available outside the Austria Centre Vienna within easy reach by public transport or at the VIC.

Post Office

The post office at the Austria Centre Vienna will be opened daily from 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.

Press briefings

Daily press briefings will be held in the Press Room at 5.00 p.m.

Ancillary meetings

Ancillary meetings will be held from11 April to 16 April 2000.

The official opening of the ancillary meetings will take place at the Austria Centre in Hall L, on 11 April 2000, at 9.00 a.m.

Orientation meetings of non-governmental organizations

Orientation meetings providing participants with information on the ancillary meetings will be held daily from 11 April to 16 April 2000, at 6.00 p.m. in Hall L.
